This is a Messianic title related to the "shoot" (53:2) and "Branch" descended from David. <br />"A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit." (Isaiah 11:1) <br />In the next verse of Isaiah 53, it says this: <br />"He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
