REVELATION 2

"Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;

I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

And I will give him the morning star.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches."

"SAUDI ARABIA – Saudi Man Killed Daughter for Converting to Christianity

Recently, a Saudi member of the religious police cut his daughter’s tongue off and burned her to death for converting to Christianity. The father, who works for the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, killed his daughter following a debate on religion, according to a Web story by the United Emirates-based GulfNews.com.

Media organizations in Saudi Arabia are reporting that the victim wrote a blog under the name “Rania” a few days before her murder. According to Gulfnews.com, the victim wrote that her life became an ordeal after family members grew suspicious about her following a religious discussion with them. She said her brother found some Christian articles written by her, as well as a cross sign on her computer screen. Since then, he started to insult her and blamed the Internet for pushing her to change her religion, Gulfnews.com reported.

“Our contacts have told us of new Christians simply disappearing when their families learned of their conversion,” said Todd Nettleton, Director of Media Development for The Voice of the Martyrs, “but now even Arab media outlets confirm the violent response of radical Muslims to Christianity. We pray that someday this man will come to know Christ, and find forgiveness for ending his daughter’s life. Our hope is that someday he will see his daughter again, in heaven.”

The Voice of the Martyrs supports the evangelism efforts of Christians in Saudi Arabia, despite the great cost.

“We call on Christians everywhere to pray for believers facing intense persecution in Saudi Arabia because of their faith,” said Nettleton. “Pray God will encourage them and give them boldness to stand up for Christ.”

"ERITREA - Students Imprisoned in Shipping Container, Bibles Burned

On August 5, Eritrean authorities locked eight high school students into a metal shipping container and burned hundreds of Bibles at Sawa Defense Training Center.

According to Compass Direct News, the students were imprisoned in the container after they objected to authorities confiscating and burning 1,500 Bibles taken from new students who arrived at the training center for the new 2008-2009 school year. “During the time that the Bibles were set on fire, the Chief Commander of Sawa, Col. Debesai Ghide, gave a warning to all the students by telling them that Sawa is a place of patriotism, not a place of Pentes [Pentecostals]. Eight male students, to whom God gave boldness to speak against the burning of the Bibles, have been taken into custody in one of the metal containers that the military uses as prison cells for Christians who have been found practicing in the center,” Compass reported.

The Voice of the Martyrs provides assistance and encouragement to persecuted believers in Eritrea. VOM supports the families of martyred believers through their Families of Martyrs fund. Pray these students will be released. Ask God to encourage other Christians suffering for Christ’s sake in Eritrean prisons."

"PHILIPPINES – Communist Rebels Execute Pastor

On July 30, Communist New People’s Army rebels in the Philippines executed a Christian pastor they accused of assisting soldiers in an anti-insurgency campaign in Mindanao. According to The Voice of the Martyrs, a regional army spokesman in Mindanao, Lt. Col. Kurt Decapia, said soldiers had recovered the body of Pastor Josefino Estaniel from a shallow grave in Dalagdag village, Calinan district, in Davao city.

According to reports, the pastor was kidnapped in May and was tortured during captivity. Pray for the family of Pastor Estaniel during this time of grief. Pray for the safety of other church leaders in the region. There has been a sharp rise in attacks and threats on Christians, especially church leaders, in recent weeks."

"CHINA – Imprisoned Christian’s Health Deteriorating

Imprisoned Beijing bookstore owner and house church leader, Shi Weihan’s health is rapidly deteriorating because he is being denied diabetes medication and is being held under poor conditions.

“Shi has lost more than 22 pounds because of the constant physical and psychological torture employed by prison officials. Recently Shi was coerced to sign and recognize a confession convicting him of ‘engaging in the printing and distribution of a large number of illegal publications,’” China Aid Association reported.

Shi was arrested four months ago after the Chinese government charged him for printing Bibles and Christian literature which were sold at his Christian bookstore in Beijing. The communist government declared Shi’s activities illegal because the books he sold were not printed by the government-sanctioned Three Self Patriotic Movement Church.

The Voice of the Martyrs has supported persecuted believers like Shi Weihan in China for the past 30 years. VOM and China Aid Association recently joined together to raise awareness of the increased incidents of persecution in China. In this effort, VOM has urged believers around the world, through our Web site www.prisoneralert.com, to write letters of encouragement to believers who have been imprisoned because of their faith.

Pray for Shi’s healing and comfort during this difficult time. Pray the Holy Spirit will minister to his family. Ask God to use Shi’s courageous testimony to draw his persecutors into the knowledge of Jesus Christ."

Recently, a Saudi member of the religious police cut his daughter’s tongue off and burned her to death for converting to Christianity.

This country, although an ally of the US, is full of spiritual darkness connected to a repressive form of Islam.

The West should oppose this more strongly even though Saudi has oil.
