Hello! My name is Anders Branderud and I am from Sweden.

Historical fact (the research of James Parkes; Charlesworth; Barrie Wilsson and other Scholars at leading universities implies this) is that Ribi Yehoshuas was a Pharisee.

The historical Ribi Yehoshua (the Messiah) didn't abolish the "law". He and his followers Netzarim practised it non-selectively!!

The earliest extant Church historian, Eusebius further documented (EH III.xxvii.4-6) that the original Netzarim accepted only the Jewish Tana"kh as Bible and only The Netzarim ("their own") Hebrew Matityahu (NHM) as an authentic account of the life and teachings of Ribi Yәhoshua, never accepting the the 2nd-4th century, heavily gentile-redacted (Greek), NT.

Historical Scholars in leading universities (for example Bart Ehrman) agrees that NT has been redacted.

Ribi Yehoshua warned for false prophets who don’t produce good fruit = defined as don’t practise the commandments in Torah (Torah including oral Torah). See Devarim (Deuteronomy) 13:1-6.
Now you are confronted with the very words of historical Ribi Yehoshua. To follow him you need to start practising Torah non-selectively!

So why not start following Ribi Yehoshua? To follow him by practising the commandments in Torah including helping the needy gives true meaning of life!!

Good luck with that one, Jeff! :-)

I won't wait up while you try unpacking all of that nonsense :-)

Jeff said...

Anders,

I did some Internet research and found that you are apparently a Jewish anti-missionary who goes to Christian websites and posts the same nonsense on all of them.

I don't even need to address your falsehoods concerning Jesus/Yeshua (the Messiah) to show that you are wrong. The Torah itself proves you are wrong! You talk about following the Commandments, but they cannot save you, because you can never follow them perfectly. The Torah says:

"All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one" (Psalm 14:3)

"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me." (Psalm 51:5)

"For we have all become like one who is unclean [ceremonially, like a leper], and all our righteousness (our best deeds of rightness and justice) is like filthy rags or a polluted garment; we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away [far from God's favor, hurrying us toward destruction]." (Isaiah 64:6)

This prophecies of the new birth, which is through Yeshua Ha-mashiach:
"I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh." (Ezekial 11:19)

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekial 36:26)

Faith in the Messiah saves you, not trying to follow the Mosaic Law, which you cannot obey perfectly every second of your entire life:
"Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness." (Genesis 15:6)

"Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered." (Psalm 32:1)

Yeshua Ha-mashiach was a sinless male, the Lamb of God, and our sins were transmitted to Him when He died on the cross, just as the people's sins were symbolically transmitted to the burnt offering in Leviticus:
"If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to offer a male without defect. He must present it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting so that it will be acceptable to the LORD. He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him." (Leviticus 1:3,4)

Therefore, Anders, the very Torah which you claim to follow condemns you! If you are trying to obtain salvation through the Law, you have already failed, because only a sinless, morally perfect person can do that, and no one except Yeshua Ha-mashiach has ever been perfectly sinless. Yeshua Ha-mashiach (Jesus Christ the Messiah) is God the Son, and you cannot come to YHWH (i.e., the Father) except through the Son.

Anders,

Every one of us has fallen short of the glory of God. Every person has lied, cheated, lusted, gossiped, hated, stolen, cursed, blasphemed, etc. Our words, thoughts and actions are tainted with sin, pride and selfishness. God is holy and righteous, and is no respecter of persons. In the Old Testament/Torah, God did not put up with sin, and neither will He after we die. He sent Yeshua Ha-mashiach to be the fulfillment and final sacrifice, and through Yeshua, we can obtain circumcision of the heart.

"But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify." (Romans 3:21)

Yes, Ribi Yehoshua – the Messiah – was killed on a cross; but those who don’t do their utmost to keep Torah have not atonement and will never get כיפור (kipur; atonement) from ha-Sheim – the Creator – in His khein (grace). The formula to get eternal life is written in Torah. Those who do their utmost to keep Torah get atonement by ha-Sheim – the Creator – khein (grace) for their breaches against Torah (Instruction in English).

I and all other Torah-practising Jews breaches the Torah by mistake -- but we get kipur (atonement) by ha-Sheim - the Creator.

Ribi Yehoshua was a human and therefore he also breached the Torah by mistake. No human is perfect.

Ribi Yehoshua said:

"Don't think that I came to uproot the Torah or the Neviim [prophets], but rather I came to reconcile them with the Oral Law of emet (truth). Should the heavens and ha-aretz (the land, particularly referring to Israel) exchange places, still, not even one ' (yod) nor one ` (qeren) of the Oral Law of Mosheh shall so much as exchange places; until it shall become that it is all being fully ratified and performed non-selectively. For whoever deletes one Oral Law from the Torah, or shall teach others such, by those in the Realm of the heavens he shall be called "deleted." Both he who preserves and he who teaches them shall be called Ribi in the Realm of the heavens. For I tell you that unless your Tzedaqah (righteousness) is over and above that of the Sophrim, and of the [probably 'Herodian'] Rabbinic-Perushim (corrupted to "Pharisees"), there is no way you will enter into the Realm of the heavens! “
NHM 5:17-20

Ribi Yehoshuas teaching harmonizes with Torah – which says that the only way to get atonement from ha-Sheim (the Creator) – which He does in His khein (grace) – is by doing one’s utmost to practise the mitzwot (commandments).

Anders,

First, it is interesting to talk to you, because I rarely get to talk to a person of the Jewish faith.

Ribi Yehoshua was a human and therefore he also breached the Torah by mistake. No human is perfect.

Yeshua Ha-mashiach never breached the Torah. He was fully God and fully man, and was completely without sin. But let’s forget that for the moment, because you said that everlasting life comes from following the Torah, so let’s look at that.

Let’s see what the Torah has to say about that.

First, Leviticus 4:1-5:13. I won’t type out the entire thing, but here is the first 5 verses:

“Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the LORD in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them, if the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer to the LORD for his sin which he has sinned a young bull without blemish as a sin offering. He shall bring the bull to the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the LORD, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and kill the bull before the LORD. Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and bring it to the tabernacle of meeting.”

This, as well as Lev. 6:24-30, 8:14-17, and 16:3-22, talk about the Sin Offering, which was mandatory atonement for specific UNINTENTIONAL sin (or, as you phrased it, "by mistake"), confession of sin, forgiveness of sin, and cleansing from defilement.

You would need some of the following:
1. A young bull for the High Priest and the congregation.
2. A male goat for the leader.
3. A female goat or lamb for the common person.
4. A dove or pigeon for the poor.
5. A tenth of an ephah of fine flour for the very poor.

Besides the Sin Offering, the Torah also commands a Guilt Offering (Lev. 5:14-6:7 and 7:1-6). This had to do with mandatory atonement for unintentional sin requiring restitution, cleansing from defilement, making restitution and paying a 20% fine. You would need a ram or a lamb to perform this offering.

So, Anders, when was the last time you sacrificed one of these animals for your sin?

Oh, I’m sorry. You would need a priest to perform the sacrifice.

But you have another problem, as well. The temple was destroyed twice, the second time in 70 AD. Now there are only synagogues. So where are you going to perform these animal sacrifices?

In the Torah, God always requires a blood sacrifice to forgive sins. So it seems you have a huge problem there, bud!

For I tell you that unless your Tzedaqah (righteousness) is over and above that of the Sophrim, and of the [probably 'Herodian'] Rabbinic-Perushim (corrupted to "Pharisees"), there is no way you will enter into the Realm of the heavens! “

Thank you for making my point for me. These same verses condemn you. According to that verse, unless you are perfect, “there is no way you will enter into the realm of the heavens!” Are you perfect, Anders? If not, you will not enter Heaven!

Only the perfect blood sacrifice of Yeshua Ha-mashiach on the cross fulfilled the Law, and only by faith in His atonement for us can we enter Heaven. The Law was meant to be a mirror, to show us our need for a Messiah to save us from our sins.

Jeff said...

Another way to put it: YHWH doesn't give "A's" for effort. You either pass 100%, or you don't pass at all. And He doesn't grade on a curve, either. He is holy, and He only accepts perfect holiness.

Jeff,
Nice to meet you!

“Yeshua Ha-mashiach never breached the Torah. He was fully God and fully man, and was completely without sin.”
No, that is no where in the Jewish Bible. ha-Mashiakh is a human according to the Jewish Bible. I don’t accept your NT-allegations!

You write: “Only the perfect blood sacrifice of Yeshua Ha-mashiach on the cross fulfilled the Law, and only by faith in His atonement for us can we enter Heaven. The Law was meant to be a mirror, to show us our need for a Messiah to save us from our sins.”

No, that is no where in the Tan’’kh – the Jewish Bible. Please, go and learn Hebrew and study the below materials. Get back to me later!
Torah is explicit clear that if you don’t do your best to practise Torah – there will be NO kipur (atonement). Please read Yәkhëz•qeil′ 18 – in Hebrew of course!

These above links answers all your comments about sacrifices. It is not possible to do sacrifices and it will never ever be possible again because there are no legitimate kôhanim; and will never be, because there are no more genealogical records – they were burned by the Romans.
Still Tan’’kh – for example Yәkhëz•qeil′ 18 – promises kipur (atonement) for they who do their utmost to keep Torah. ha-Sheim – the Creator – cannot lie!!

You write: “Thank you for making my point for me. These same verses condemn you. According to that verse, unless you are perfect, “there is no way you will enter into the realm of the heavens!”
No, they don’t. The groups Ribi Yehoshua named in verse 20 were selective practisers of Torah – just like you. The sophrim he mentions in verse 20 refers to the Hellenist pseudo-Tzәdoqim – selective pracers of Torah.

Be blessed when you practise Torah non-selectively!

If you want to follow Ribi Yehoshua you need to start living like him which you don’t. I hope you choose the only way which leads to life – non-selectively Torah practise!
It leads to life because ha-Sheim – the Creator – gives atonement for the shortcomings of the Torah-practiser.

Actually, there is one---and only one---genealogical record left. That is the genealogical record of Jesus Christ, Yeshua the Messiah. He is the only one that can be traced back in His lineage, proving that He is the One and only Messiah.

Regarding sacrifices:
“The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.”
Then I said, 'Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, O God.' First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.” (Hebrews 10:1-18)

Still Tan’’kh – for example Yәkhëz•qeil′ 18 – promises kipur (atonement) for they who do their utmost to keep Torah. ha-Sheim – the Creator – cannot lie!!

It leads to life because ha-Sheim – the Creator – gives atonement for the shortcomings of the Torah-practiser.

A judge that merely excuses sin is not a good or a righteous judge. If a murderer or a rapist stands before a judge and the judge says, “No problem, you’re free to go,” that is not a good judge. Yet that is what you are claiming God will do. All of us have deeply offended God (YHWH). Our sins are far worse than mere “shortcomings of the Torah.”

The date on any newspaper, or the copyright date on a University textbook, bears witness to the fact that Jesus Christ affected history more than anyone else that ever walked this earth.

"As the centuries pass, the evidence is accumulating that, measured by his effect on history, Jesus is the most influential life ever lived on this plant. That influence appears to be mounting." (Historian Kenneth Scott Latourette)

"Jesus was the greatest religious genius that ever lived. His beauty is eternal, and his reign shall never end. Jesus is in every respect unique, and nothing can be compared with him. All history is incomprehensible without Christ." (Ernest Renan)

Jesus Christ is both a name and a title. The name 'Jesus' is derived from the Greek Jeshua or Joshua meaning "Jehovah-Savior" or "the Lord saves." The title 'Christ' comes from the Greek for Messiah (or the Hebrew Mashiach; See Daniel 9:26) and means "anointed one." Two offices, king and priest, are involved in the use of the title "Christ." His title affirms Jesus as the promised priest and king of Old Testament (Torah) prophecies.

"Peter confessed, after Christ asked him who he was: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16). Jesus responded to Peter's confession not by correcting his conclusion but by acknowledging its validity and source: "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 16:17)"

(from "More Than A Carpenter" by Josh McDowell)

Christ Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah, is the Suffering Servant Who will come again as the reigning and conquering King.

Isaiah 53 talks about a suffering servant.

Psalm 22 talks about the crucifixion of the Messiah.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 talks about how there is an old covenant, and one day there will be a new one.

Daniel 9:24-27 talks about how the Messiah will be cut off, and then the city will be destroyed. "The city" in the Old Testament (Torah) always refers to Jerusalem, which we know was destroyed in 70 AD, so the Messiah had to come before that.

Proverbs 30:4 tells us there is a God, then asks the question: "And what is His Son's Name?"

Jeff said...

Yeshua Ben Yosef is the Messiah Ben Yosef spoken of in the Talmud (Sukkah 52a) and throughout the Tanakh. He was born in the year that the prophet Daniel prophesied Messiah would be born in (prior to the destruction of the Second Temple), and fulfilled the prophecies of the Tanakh.

HaShem is echad (one unity). There is no unity like His.

There is no physical thing that resembles HaShem. He cannot be contained or understood by the rules that govern the physical world (as He is a spiritual Being).

Yeshua did indeed say, "Don't think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete. Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yod or a stroke will pass from the Torah."

Yeshua HaMashiach has come, and He will come again in His eminent return. How long it will take..."no man knows the hour."

There is the Tanakh, including the Torah, N'viim, and Ketuvim, which are also called the "Old Covenant" (though, since the Word of HaShem does not age, wither or die, His Word is not really 'old'). There is also the B'rit Chadasha, the Renewed Covenant, foretold in Yirimiyahu (Jeremiah) 31:31 (31:31 in the Masoretic text).

As one who has experienced the circumcision of the heart (i.e., my 'heart of stone' has been made into a 'heart of flesh,' as prophesied in the Tanakh), I am indwelt by Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit), and He has regenerated me and transformed my life.

In both the above cases, I should have said 'Tanakh,' not 'Torah.' For the sake of readers, the Tanakh is the Old Testament, and the Torah is the Pentateuch, or first five books of the Old Testament (also called the Books of Moses, and associated with the Law, since they contain the Ten Commandments and other commands, especially in Exodus and Leviticus).

Again I messed up. It should say 31:30 in the Masoretic text. It is super-late, way past my bedtime, and I am tired, so I am losing concentration. I need to get to bed.

In part, you are correct. In the comment I wrote immediately after your previous comment, I included a few quotes of what you said, and I replied to those.
However, my 6 comments after that, though generally addressing the same subject, were not specifically or only directly to you; because other people sometimes read these comments, they were partly for the sake of them.

You don't even understand that I believe that the Messiah has come - before 70 C.E!!

I assume you are referring to when I said, “Daniel 9:24-27 talks about how the Messiah will be cut off, and then the city will be destroyed. "The city" in the Old Testament (Torah) always refers to Jerusalem, which we know was destroyed in 70 AD, so the Messiah had to come before that.” Again, those comments were really directed in general to anyone who might read these comments, and not specifically to you. Still Tan’’kh – for example Yekhëz•qeil (Hezekiel) 18 – promises kipur (atonement) for they who do their utmost to keep Torah. ha-Sheim – the Creator – cannot lie!!

Ezekiel 18:31 says:
“Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?”

This refers to the promise of the New Covenant (B'rit Chadasha, the Renewed Covenant), as do these verses:

“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 11:19)

“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

This speaks of the prophecy of the New Birth through Christ Jesus the Messiah.

This is what has occurred with me and with all whose hearts have been regenerated through the blood of Jesus Christ and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh).

There are many messianic prophecies in the Jewish Bible - but none of them is about a Christian Saviour.
Yeshayahu 53 is about pro-Torah Ribi Yehoshua.

Why would there be a prophecy about someone who was merely a human Rabbi or a Pharisee? That makes no sense.

There are over 300 Messianic prophecies. The ones concerning his second coming have not been fulfilled yet (i.e. the ruling and reigning Messiah-King), but all the others (i.e., the suffering Messiah, the Lamb of God Who died to take away our sins) were fulfilled by Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach.

-In Micah 5:2, Christ Jesus’ pre-existence is foretold. In Genesis 3:15, it says He would be born as the seed of a woman (but it says nothing about the seed of a man).

-In Genesis 12:3, it says He would be of the seed of Abraham, and that all nations would be blessed by Him.

-In Genesis 22:8, it says God would provide Himself a Lamb as an offering.

-Genesis 49:10 says He would be from the tribe of Judah.

-Isaiah 9:6-7 says He would be heir to the throne of David.

-Isaiah 9:6 says He would be called “the mighty God, the everlasting Father.”

-Micah 5:2 says He would be born in Bethlehem.

-Isaiah 7:14 says He would be born of a virgin, and that His name would be “Immanuel, God with us.” (Jesus Christ was fully man and fully God.)

-Psalm 2:7 says He would be declared to be the Son of God.

-Malachi 3:1 says He would be preceeded by a messenger to prepare His way.

-Malachi 4:5-6 says that messenger who came before Him would come in the spirit of Elijah (and that messenger was John the Baptist).

-Isaiah 40:3 says that messenger would cry, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord.” (Which John the Baptist fulfilled).

-Deuteronomy 18:15 says He would be a prophet of the children of Israel.

-Hosea 11:1 says He would be called out of Egypt.

-Jeremiah 31:15 prophecies the slaughter of the children.

-Judges 13:5, Amos 2:11 and Lamentations 4:7 says He would be a Nazarene.

-Psalm 72:10 says He would be presented with gifts.

-Isaiah 53:3 says He would be rejected by His own.

Those are only a small portion of the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled.

The Tanakh says that the Messiah will descent from Shem (Genesis 9,10), Abraham (Gen. 22:18), Isaac (Gen. 26:2-4), Jacob (Gen. 28:14), Judah (Gen. 49:10), Jesse (Isa. 11:1-5), and King David (Sam. 7:11-16).

He would be born in the city of Bethlehem in the county of Ephrathah (Micah 5:2) when a bright star appears (Numbers 24:17). It will be a miraculous, virgin birth (Isa. 7:14).

The Messiah will be unique, having pre-existed His birth (Micah 5:2). He would perform many miracles, such as calming the sea (Psalm 107:29) and causing the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the lame to walk, and the mute to talk (Isaiah 35:4-6). He would be referred to in many ways including 'God with us' (Isaiah 7:14), wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father and prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6). One day He will rule over everything---all nations will bow down to Him (Isaiah 45:23, Psalm 22).

The Messiah, however, would come to save mankind (Isaiah 53). He would become man's sin offering (Isaiah 53) and present Himself to Jerusalem as both the anointed King (Zechariah 9:9) and the Passover Lamb (Isaiah 53). This would occur exactly 173,880 days after the decree by Artaxerxes to rebuild both Jerusalem and the Temple (Daniel 9:20-27). So, 4 days before Passover, the Messiah would present Himself to a rejoicing Jerusalem riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9). But then He would suffer greatly (Isaiah 53), and would be rejected by many, including His friends (Isaiah 53). He would be betrayed by a friend (Psalm 41:9) for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12-13). Those 30 pieces of silver would later be thrown on the floor of the temple (Zechariah 11:12-13) and would eventually go to a potter (Zechariah 11:12-13). At His trial, He would say nothing (Isaiah 53) except as required by Law. Israel would reject Him (Isaiah 8:14).

The Messiah would be taken to a hilltop identified by Abraham as "the Lord will provide" (Genesis 22). There He would be crucified with His hands and His feet pierced (Psalm 22). His enemies would encircle Him (Psalm 22), and would cast lots for His clothing (Psalm 22). He would call to God (His Father), asking why He was forsaken (Psalm 22). He would be given gall and wine (Psalm 69:20-22). He would die with thieves (Isaiah 53). But unlike the thieves, none of His bones would be broken (Psalm 22). His heart would fail (Psalm 22), as indicated by blood and water spilling out (Psalm 22) when He was pierced with a spear (Zechariah 12:10). Research has indicated that His heart burst. He would be buried in a rich man's grave (Isaiah 53). In 3 days, He would rise from the dead (Isaiah 53, Psalm 22).

God did not save Israel in the Tanakh by the Law, or He would have given them the Law in Egypt. They were saved by the blood of the Lamb during the first Passover, and today, we are saved by the blood of the Lamb of God, Yeshua HaMashiach, Christ Jesus the Messiah. The Tanakh saints were saved by faith, just as we are today. They were saved by faith in the coming Messiah. The Jews celebrate Jesus' ministry, death, burial and resurrection each year in the Passover, but few understand what they are celebrating.

Just as a general comment to all readers:

Because popular Jewish ideas associated with the term "Christ" were largely political and national, Jesus seldom used that title.

Jesus often referred to Himself as the "Son of Man." Some have said that, since God becoming man was a new experience for Him, Jesus reveled in the idea of being a "Son of Man" (though, biologically, He was only a son of woman).

More likely, I think, is the Messianic prophecy in Daniel 7:13-14, which talks about "one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven," which is largely why, I suspect, Jesus, more than 80 times, refers to Himself by that title.
