Psalm 23

OK, today I decided to post this cute little video of
two-year-old twins reciting Psalm 23.



Just in case you can't understand them, here is Psalm 23
in the NIV, which is the version they are reciting from:

"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters; He restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."

Too many Christians today fail to practice the highly-beneficial art of Scripture memorization. I know I don't do it like I used to.

Basically, what you put into your mind is what comes out in your thoughts, words and actions. If you put good, positive thoughts in, good stuff tends to come out; if you put bad, negative stuff in, bad stuff tends to come out. (Garbage in, garbage out.)

Jesus said, "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" (Matt. 6:22,23)

What you look at; what you read; what you watch on TV or in movies; what you listen to...all these things contribute, to one degree or another, to what kinds of things you will say and think, and what kind of things you will do.

And don't forget the next Psalm, Psalm 22. It prophesies of the Suffering Messiah.

Compare to:
"About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matt. 27:46)

"All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." (Psalm 22:7,8)

Compare to:
"In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" (Matt. 27:41-43)

"They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." (Psalm 22:18)

Compare to:
"When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did." (John 19:23,24)

"Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips." (John 19:28,29)

"Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs." (John 19:31-33)

"Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet." (Psalm 22:16)

Compare to:
"So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it." A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." (John 20:25-27)
